As part of Rare Disease Day on February 28th 2025, HSJ Market Intelligence has launched the Rare Disease Awareness Real-World Data Dashboard to highlight the burden and impact of rare diseases in England. While they are by their very definition rare, collectively rare disease affect millions of people in the UK. We want to raise awareness of the impact of different categories of rare disease both geographically across different regions in England, as well as across different population demographics, including age, gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic deprivation. To do this we have identified >1,800 diagnoses for conditions that are defined as rare by Orphanet. Typically patients with rare diseases have some of the highest unmet medical needs owing to the barriers to innovation such as technology and cost of treatment.
